Charming Oregon Ski Vacations

Oregon has always been famous for its ski slopes. If you do find yourself here for a ski vacation, make sure you stay at Timberline Lodge, Which is located near Mount Hood.  A master craftsman built the Lodge during the great depression. The Lodge was also used for the movie ‘The Shining’. This is a one of a kind lodge, having been built in its entirety by hand. There is a sense of history attached to this lodge, to go with it rustic charm.

Oregon has a 1400-acre ski property consisting of 35 trails.  The elevation at the top at Timberline Lodge is 8504 feet and it has a vertical drop of 2501 feet. There are six chair lifts for the skiers to use. A unique thing about Timberline is that it allows skiers the opportunity to ski all year round since Palmer Snowfield, which is a part of Timberline, has snow all year round. It must be kept in mind though, that owning to the conditions, beginners may not be allowed at certain times of the year.

Apart form skiing, the main attractions at Timberline are, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking and lodge tours. Mount Hood is considered to be a dormant volcano where tremors are occasionally felt and steam vents often visible.

Apart from the Cascade dinning room, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday, there are a number of other options where food is concerned. Ram’s Head Bar, the Market Café, the Blue Ox bar, the Wy’East Kitchen Cafeteria and the Mt. Hood Brewing Company are some of the other options for you to choose from.

Although there is a ski and snowboarding school where you can avail of private or group lessons, there is no rental equipment rental shop here. Certain smaller equipment and clothing can be purchased at the lodge though. Don’t forget to ride the Magic Mile, which offers a panoramic view of the Cascade Mountains.

If it’s all about the snow for you and you’re not keen on something too fancy, then the Oregon slopes is where you should be headed.
